Warisan likely to get three ministerial positions

KOTA KINABALU: Pakatan Harapan’s ally Parti Warisan Sabah is likely to get three minister and four deputy positions in the new Cabinet.

Warisan sources said that the party deputy president and Penampang MP Darell Leiking (pic) was slotted for the International Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti), with Warisan permanent chairman and Batu Sapi MP Datuk V.K. Liew likely to be a Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of Law.

Silam MP Datuk Mohamadin Ketapi, a veteran Sabah politician from east coast Lahad Datu, is expected to be given the Tourism and Culture Ministry portfolio, the sources said.

The sources said Warisan youth leader Datuk Mohd Azis Jamman, who is Sepanggar MP, was the choice for Deputy Home Minister while giant-killer Kota Belud MP Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis looks set to be Deputy Works Minister .

Munirah defeated Sabah Umno strongman Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak in GE14.

Also on the cards to be made Deputy Minister are Kalabakan MP Ma’mun Sulaiman and Papar MP Ahmad Hassan.

The sources said that the names were recommended by Warisan president and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, adding that the former would abide by the decision of the Prime Minister.

Warisan, which is not a member of PH but worked with Sabah DAP and PKR on a seat-sharing arrangement, won nine parliamentary seats, with DAP and PKR winning two each of the 25 parliamentary seats in Sabah. The sources did not rule out the possibility of the DAP and PKR MPs from Sabah being given positions in the Federal Cabinet.

Shafie had included representatives of DAP and PKR in his state Cabinet.
