Lawyers pleased to see Raus and Zulkefli go

PETALING JAYA: Lawyers welcomed the resignations of Chief Justice Tun Md Raus Sharif and Court of Appeal president Tan Sri Zulkefli Ahmad Makinudin, whose re-appointments were deemed unconstitutional by several groups, and called on the Government to ensure an independent judiciary.

A statement from the Federal Court chief registrar’s office yesterday revealed that Raus and Zulkefli had sent in their resignations to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on June 7. The resignations will take effect on July 31.
