PETALING JAYA: The Finance Ministry will give out a special Hari Raya Aidilfitri payout (Bayaran Khas Aidilfitri 2018) to mosque caretakers, religious teachers and Kelas Asas Fardhu Ain (Kafa) teachers in the country.
In a statement Wednesday (June 13) Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said this was in line with the announcement by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad that individuals managing mosques would receive a special Aidilfitri payout.
Lim said that mosque management members, religious teachers, and Kafa teachers would each receive a one-off payment of RM400.
He said that 66,258 individuals over the country, made out of 12,500 imams, 8,650 bilals, 3,950 religious teachers, 8,394 Tok Siak, Norja, Merbot and 32,764 KAFA teachers, would receive the payment.
He added that the special payout would cost the Ministry RM26.5 mil and the payment will be distributed through the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim).
The payment, he said, will be deposited directly into the individuals' bank accounts.
"We hope that this incentive will assist the individuals' Hari Raya preparations," he added.
He added that the payment was not part of the Bantuan Sara Hidup Rakyat (BSHR, formerly known as BR1M) scheme, of which the Federal Government has spent RM 1.6bil since June 6 on about 4.1 million Malaysians eligible for the scheme.
