IPOH: Former Umno Sungai Manik assemblyman Datuk Zainol Fadzi Paharuddin was appointed as the Perak Mentri Besar's adviser because of his role in helping Pakatan Harapan to form the state government.
A source from Pakatan confirmed that all component parties have reached a consensus over his appointment due to the support given by Zainol Fadzi and Tualang Sekah assemblyman Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohd Radzi.
"That's the main reason why he was appointed. Not all members agreed to it but it was agreed upon by all state component parties," he said when contacted.
"Pakatan members will just have to move forward. We'll see how it pans out in the future," he added.
Zainol Fadzi's appointment has caused an uproar among Pakatan members and also among the public, whom many have felt that Pakatan has betrayed the trust given by them.
Both Zainol Fadzi and Nolee Ashilin pledged their support for Pakatan to form the state government after the narrow win by Pakatan in GE14.
Pakatan had won 29 state seats while Barisan Nasional had 27 and PAS three.
While Zainol Fadzi had joined Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PBBM), Nolee Ashilin chose to remain as an independent assemblyman.
The source also said that with his appointment, Zainol Fadzi would enjoy all the benefits accorded to a state executive councillor.
"However, he cannot attend exco meetings," he said.
Earlier today, Perak Mentri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu said Zainol Fadzi was a registered Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PBBM) member and not an outsider or an independent representative.
He said Zainol Fadzi has shown his support to the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah by supporting Pakatan to form the state government.
“Zainol Fadzi’s appointment has received the consent of the Sultan. I don’t see the need to change that decision,” he said.
Ahmad Faizal added that both Zainol Fadzi and him were the only two PBBM state assemblymen in Perak.
“His appointment is also to ensure that the relationship between all component parties is maintained,” he added.
