KUALA LUMPUR: Umno information chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa will be contesting the deputy president’s post in the June 30 party election.
“After taking into consideration the current situation within the party, and discussing with senior party leaders at the national and state levels, I will offer to contest the deputy president’s post.
“May everything go well.
“I will continue to defend my loyalty to the party to uphold the religion, race and country,” Annuar said in a brief statement to the media yesterday.
On Friday night, Annuar was reported by Bernama as saying in Kota Baru that he would announce next week which position to contest as he wanted to focus on helping the party administration because “there is a lot of work to do”.
The Ketereh MP, who is also the Ketereh Umno division head, said there were still many states he had to visit to hold briefings so that the party election process would run smoothly.
“We want the elections to go well, no factions, no money politics and there should not be any negative elements during the election process,” Annuar told reporters at the Yayasan Kemiskinan Kelantan office.
“I see the election this time as extraordinary as many youths, women and professionals have come forward, offering to contest, with the intention of strengthening the party.
“What we have feared isn’t happening, that when Umno becomes powerless, no one is willing to contest,” he added.
In Kuala Lumpur, Nur Faezah Fazal, special officer to Puteri Umno head Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin, has offered herself as a candidate for the post of Puteri Umno vice-head.
“Since my association with Umno, I’ve realised that this struggle is not a temporary one.
“The struggle will not wipe out the deeds and contributions by previous leaders.
“The main factor for success is consent and support.
“Today, I have prepared myself to contest the post of vice-head of Puteri Umno Malaysia,” Nur Faezah, 28, said in a statement to the media yesterday.
