IPOH: The Human Resources Ministry will engage with the Education Ministry to get more school leavers to join the Government’s Industrial Training Institutes.
Minister M.Kulasegaran said the 32 such Institutes nationwide were under-utilised, despite the facility churning out some really good students with skills.
He said all students who graduated from such institutions were employed.
“Schools must fully engage with the Institutes, and encourage students who are not performing well in academics to join skilled based courses.
“The perception that joining such institutions will dirty ones' hands must change,” he said after a dialogue session with industry players on skills training at the institute here.
Kulasegaran added that for students who after their Form Three, who were not performing well in their studies, should be referred to enrolled in such institutions.
“There is no point to ask them to sit until Form Five exams, where they show no interest in academics.
“Thus allowing them to take up skill based courses, this will bring more benefits to them in the near future,” he added.
Kulasegaran said he was told that foreign colleges from Taiwan yearly in August enrolled some 1000 students from Perak to study in their country for a three-year degree course.
“If they are able to do that, the institutions must play a bigger role to get more students here,” he added.
