KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Retail Chain Association (MRCA), through its Charity Foundation, will donate RM200,000 to the "Tabung Harapan Malaysia" fund, said its president Datuk Seri Garry Chua.
He said the donation was to show the association's spirit of patriotism and support for the Government to rebuild the country.
"We want to set a good example for other associations. In this very crucial time, we must unite and take part to help the Government to improve our economy," he told Bernama at the MRCA office in Subang Jaya, Selangor.
Chua said the donation would be channelled through online transaction or directly handed over to a representative of the Finance Ministry.
Furthermore, he said, the 470 members of MRCA had also been urged to give their personal donations to the fund.
The fund was set up by the Government after many Malaysians expressed their desire to donate to help the Government reduce the country's debt. Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng had announced Thursday (May 31) that Malaysians had donated RM7mil within 24 hours of its launch. - Bernama
