KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mahathir said he did not know about Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's security detail being reduced.

Commenting on a social media post by the former prime minister saying goodbye to his security detail, Dr Mahathir said: "He is under investigation."

"If he is found innocent, he would get the same treatment as other prime ministers," Dr Mahathir told reporters after attending a buka puasa event at Bukit Aman on Tuesday.

Such statements would seem to imply that the strength of Najib's security detail is linked to the investigations currently surrounding him.

Meanwhile, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said not all of Najib's security personnel have been revoked.

"We will maintain several security personnel following the standard operating procedures in place," he said.

"Former prime ministers are eligible for certain things. We will maintain his aide-de-camp, the aide-de-camp for Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, bodyguards and drivers, but we will scale down (the number of personnel)," Mohamad Fuzi added.
