PETALING JAYA: The Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s supreme council meeting today may discuss the party’s nomination list for the remaining Cabinet ministerial posts.

It is tipped that among the nominated candidates are Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, Sri Gading MP Datuk Dr Shahruddin Md Salleh and Alor Gajah MP Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof.

It is likely that the deputy ministerial roles would also be discussed in the meeting, the source added.

The source, however, did not say which ministerial posts the nominated candidates may take up.

“However, this is all subject to negotiations with the other parties in the presidential council,” the source said.

The meeting is expected to be attended by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who is Pribumi chairman, as well as other leaders such as president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and deputy president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir.

Syed Saddiq, who is Pribumi Youth chief, made headlines last year when he announced he would be deferring his studies at Oxford University to continue serving in the party.

Dr Shahruddin is the party’s secretary-general while Mohd Redzuan is one of the party’s Supreme Council members.

A total of 13 new ministers were sworn in before Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V at Istana Negara last Monday.

Other Pribumi members who also hold Cabinet ministerial portfolios include Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as Home Affairs Minister, Dr Maszlee Malik as Education Minister and Rina Harun as Rural Development Minister.

The source said the agenda of the supreme council meeting may include party elections and setting up party branches.

“Right now, the party only has divisions set up, so we would be discussing the setting up of the party branches and their leadership positions,” said the source.
