BUTTERWORTH: Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu says measures will be taken to upgrade the assets of the nation’s military.
“We need sophisticated assets and we also need to ensure items are purchased at the correct prices,” he told a press conference before breaking fast with Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) officers at the RMAF base here yesterday.
Mohamad said he would bring the proposal to the Cabinet and hope that Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed and other ministers would support his proposal.
Asked on the Scorpene submarine purchase by the previous Government, he said he had not gone into that as he was still learning the ropes.
“I will not take action based on hearsay but there will be a committee that will look into the matter in stages,” he assured.
Mohamad, commonly known as Mat Sabu, was accompanied by his wife Normah Alwi, Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar and Permatang Pasir assemblyman Faiz Fadzil.
