MIRI: The Sarawak state government under Barisan Nasional wants to work closely with the Pakatan Harapan-led Federal Government in enhancing welfare, women, family and community issues.

State Welfare, Women, Family and Community Wellbeing Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said political differences should be set aside in this regard.

"I will be going to Putrajaya to pay a courtesy call on the Deputy Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail) who is the Women and Family Development Minister.

"My ministry at the state level wants to work with her ministry at the Federal level so as to improve the living standards of the needy in Sarawak.

"When it comes to the well-being of the grassroots rakyat, especially the needy and less fortunate, it should transcend all considerations including race, religion and party politics.

"I am sure the DPM feels the same way too, that politics will not affect state-federal ties in matters of welfare, family and community.

"On my part I congratulate Datuk Seri Wan Azizah on her becoming the DPM.

"It is a historic achievement for women in Malaysia.

"I am sure she will be effective in her duties and we in my ministry look forward to meeting her personally soon," she said here Friday (May 25).

Fatimah was at the Miri Dynasty Hotel to hand out Gawai Dayak food items donated by the hotel and cash donations to more than 200 needy folks.
