ISKANDAR PUTERI: The Johor state government will allocate RM2.8mil to all 56 assemblymen, including those from Barisan Nasional, starting from this year.
Mentri Besar Datuk Osman Sapian (pic) said during the first state executive committee meeting he chaired on Wednesday (May 23), it was agreed that each assemblymen will receive RM50,000.
"This allocation is also given to those from Barisan as well as PAS, to ensure a more effective service is given to the rakyat without taking into consideration their political background.
"The allocation will be channelled to the district office and the money is for the assemblymen to pay for their service centre or their staff salaries," he told reporters after the exco committee meeting which was held at Kota Iskandar here.
On the day of his swearing in as Mentri Besar, Osman had said that no allocations would be given to Opposition assemblymen as it was like giving "bullets" to them to shoot back at the state government.
After an outcry from the public, Johor Pakatan Harapan chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said that Osman had been instructed to "correct" his earlier statement.
