PETALING JAYA: Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin said she was humbled and grateful upon receiving the news of her appointment as a Minister of Housing and Local Government in the new Cabinet.
"Now, I have a chance to look at the policies and implementation of the ministry in great detail.
"I believe many substantive improvements and suggestions can be implemented.
"Issues like balanced housing for bumiputras in large urban areas, and the rights of minorities, indigenous people and other citizens should be addressed in order for them to live comfortably," she said in a statement on Friday.
She added that she urgently wanted to see reforms from a safe and gender-friendly urban service perspective, as well as professional and international-class municipal and local government management implemented.
"However, community empowerment will be given priority in line with the rapid change taking place in the country."
Zuraida, 60, is a mother of three children and holds degrees in social sciences as well as sales and marketing.
She is in her third term as Ampang MP.
