KUALA LUMPUR: Several high-ranking Umno members arrived at Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s residence in Taman Duta here on Friday (May 18) afternoon.

Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim and Datuk Seri Mohd Johari Baharom, along with five other men walked to the house past the police line at Jalan Langgak Duta at around 4.35pm.

They did not speak to reporters.

Pahang Umno Youth chief Mohd Shahar Abdullah also showed up at Najib's house to show his support for the former prime minister.

Accompanied by nine supporters, Mohd Shahar told reporters that the police must be fair in their investigations.

“If they are investigating the 1MDB issue, they should stick to just that. Not go into other things,” he said.

He said the future generations will judge the actions of today and that a former prime minister deserves to be treated accordingly.

Mohd Shahar, who is also Paya Besar MP, added that he was satisfied that Najib and his family were being treated well during the extended police search.

Meanwhile, Najib’s lawyer Datuk Harpal Singh Grewal was also seen going into the house.

This was followed by several more cars arriving to the house including one with former Kedah mentri besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah.

Earlier, Padang Terap MP Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid, who is the former minister of education, Pengerang MP Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, who is a former minister in the Prime Minister's Department, and Selangor NGO chairman Nazilah Idris, visited Najib in the morning.

Azalina was seen arriving at the house in a Range Rover at about 10am and leaving about 40 minutes later.

Mahdzir came soon after Azalina left and spent about an hour at the residence.

Nazilah, who spent about 20 minutes at the house, said Najib was in good health and calm.

About 50 reporters from the local and international media stationed themselves in the vicinity of Najib's residence as early as 6am following the ongoing raid on the former premier's home.

In the wee hours of Friday, police removed 72 suitcases containing jewellery, various currency and valuables as well as 284 boxes containing branded handbags from three luxury condominiums linked to a shopping mall in Jalan Raja Chulan.

This was during the police search in the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) case, according to Bukit Aman Commercial CID director Datuk Seri Amar Singh Ishar Singh, who was at the location.

Najib and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor have been blacklisted by the Immigration Department and they are prohibited from leaving the country.

Last week, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he expected charges to be filed against Najib following investigations into allegations against the former prime minister over the removal of hundreds of millions of US dollars from the 1MDB fund.
