Nik Aziz's son barred from leading prayers at mosque

KOTA BARU: The eldest son of the late PAS icon Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat has been barred from leading prayers at a mosque in Pulau Melaka here.

Nik Omar Nik Abdul Aziz (pic), who was shunned by his family for contesting as Pakatan Harapan candidate in the recent general election, confirmed that he was barred from preaching and leading prayers at the mosque near his family home.

"My brother Nik Abduh (a PAS loyalist) told me at dawn on Friday that I am no longer allowed to be an imam.

"He told me it is our family's decision," Nik Omar said during a morning sermon at Wisma Tok Guru in Salor.

He had earned the wrath of his family for contesting the Chempaka state seat against PAS in GE14.

Nik Omar said his family had cancelled his routine weekly sermons at the Tok Guru mosque in Pulau Melaka.

"I am scheduled to give Maghrib sermons on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and the morning sermon on Fridays. If this is the price I have to pay, so be it. But I would not backtrack (decision to join Pakatan Harapan), " he said.

The Chempaka state seat was won by PAS' Ahmad Farhan.
