Daim: Council of Eminent Persons busy since inception

KUALA LUMPUR: The Council of Eminent Persons has held over 40 meetings with senior government officials, GLCs and NGOs in the six days since its formation, says Council leader Tun Daim Zainuddin.

“We have to review all mega-projects. If it’s not to our advantage, then we have to sit down and talk about it,” he told a press conference Friday (May 18).

Daim also said that the Council has all the figures for the mega-projects and will be making its recommendations to the Government.

He said that the Council's powers do not go beyond an advisory role, adding that it would leave it to the Government to act on the recommendations it puts forward.

Daim added that two committees under its purview have also been formed, namely the Institutional Reforms Committee and the committee looking into the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal.

Regarding the 1MDB investigation, Daim said businessman Jho Low’s current location is roughly known and he would like for the latter to come forward and assist with the investigations.
