PETALING JAYA: Views are split as to whether the Attorney-General should be selected from among the MPs with suggestions of a senior member of the A-G’s Chambers (AGC), a lawyer MP, a retired judge or a retired professor of law as potential candidates.
Retired Court of Appeal judge Datuk Shaik Daud Ismail said an A-G should be independent and not a politician – a departure from its current dual role of advising the Government as well as that of a public prosecutor (PP).
