KUALA LUMPUR: A decade has passed since the Government decided to gazette the 189ha Bukit Kiara here as a green lung. But it has yet to be done.
City folk clamouring for protection of the green space are now keeping their fingers crossed with the Pakatan Harapan Government in charge.
Friends of Bukit Kiara (FOBK), Trails Association of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor and Save KL Coalition accompanied newly elected Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh during a visit to the park yesterday.
“This is my second time to the park. I don’t think you can find a place like this in Kuala Lumpur and every effort must be made to preserve what we have now,” she said.
Yeoh promised to attend to the matter as MP.
“I understand that the (then) Cabinet decided for the park to be gazetted but it has not been done yet. I want to know what caused the delay from 2007 until now,” she said.
FOBK secretary Peter Leong believed the delay was due to “a reluctance to take it through the administrative processes”.
