BAGAN DATUK: Reject outsiders who come to our hometown and spread lies, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The Barisan Nasional deputy chairman said outsiders who stir up trouble were "not welcome in our home of Bagan Datuk".
"Those who come into our area for the sake of the elections and defame people for the sake of votes must be rejected.
"They are not welcome in Hutan Melintang, let alone Bagan Datuk," he said in his speech in front of thousands of supporters in the Hutan Melintang town centre on Monday (May 7) night.
In reference to Hutan Melintang PKR state seat candidate G. Manivannan, Dr Ahmad Zahid said "the people of Kapar – and even his own party – did not want him to defend his seat there."
"He came here to contest but instead of campaigning cleanly, he decided to spread lies to get votes," he added.
Dr Ahmad Zahid, who is defending the Bagan Datuk parliamentary seat, urged the people to give Barisan an even bigger mandate in GE14, including for the Hutan Melintang (contested by Datuk Khairuddin Tarmizi) and Rungkup (contested by Datuk Shahrul Zaman Yahya) state seats.
"This is the time for the people here to be united and give their full support to Barisan," he said.
In GE13, Barisan won the Bagan Datuk and Rungkup seats but lost Hutan Melintang to the Opposition.
"Barisan believes in democracy and not in attacking opposing parties.
"We focus on what we can do for the rakyat instead of spreading lies," he said.
Dr Ahmad Zahid vowed that if Barisan is given a bigger mandate, more things can be done for the people in the area.
"We want to spur development for our district and towns.
"It will benefit the people regardless of their race and background," he said.
Tuesday (May 8) is the last day of campaigning before Malaysians head to the polls on May 9.
