BENTONG: The Regent of Pahang, Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, hopes the new state government after GE14, regardless of party, will continue to work with the royal family to develop the state.
In addressing the settlers of Felda Mempaga 1, 2, 3 at an event here on Monday afternoon, Tengku Abdullah said in jest that he secretly kept a file of every elected representative in the state and would evaluate their performance as the people’s representative, minister and prime minister.
“I know Najib, who was previously Pahang Mentri Besar, for a very long time. I am not afraid to voice out my opinion on issues in Pahang with him,” he said.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, is the incumbent MP for Pekan, a parliamentary seat in Pahang.
The three Felda settlements have a combined number of 4,610 voters.
They are among the eight Felda settlements in the Bentong parliamentary seat, which is currently held by MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.
Liow is seeking re-election in GE14 as Bentong MP for the fifth term.
Tengku Abdullah, in his speech, said second Prime Minister Tun Abdul Razak Hussein, Najib’s father, obtained the permission from his grandfather Sultan Abu Bakar to set up oil palm plantations under Felda.
“Today, we have more than 100 Felda settlements in Pahang. I cannot imagine how many millionaires were created.
“I am thankful to the Barisan government for giving the people - Malays, Chinese and Indians - a chance to succeed,” he said.
Also present at the event were Tengku Abdullah’s consort Tengku Puan Pahang Tunku Azizah Maimunah Iskandariah, Pahang Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob, Liow and his wife Datin Seri Lee Sun Loo.
