ALOR SETAR: “Call me Kak Dah,” says Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz as she descended on Pendang to campaign for Wan Saiful Wan Jan in GE14.

The former Wanita Umno chief still packs a punch at age 75 as she stole the show at the Pakatan Harapan ceramah on Monday afternoon.

Speaking for more than an hour, she outshone Wan Saiful who is contesting the Pendang parliamentary seat and the two state candidates Firdaus Jaafar (Tokai) and Razak Khamis (Sungai Tiang).

Without going into specifics and speaking in colloquial Malay, Rafidah asked the crowd to “sign a new contract” and change the national-level manager and management.

Also known as the “Iron Lady” and “AP Queen”, she said her confidence in Pakatan chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was not based on personality but on his track record and capability.

However, she deftly side-stepped the fact that Dr Mahathir is 92-years-old and of delicate health.

As she spoke, a convoy of cars and motorcyclists bearing PAS flags drove past several time, blaring their horns.

Pendang used to be a PAS stronghold until Umno won the seat in 2013. The Tokai state seat remains a PAS stranglehold while Sungai Tiang is held by Umno.

The flag war has been fiercest in Pendang area which will see three-cornered fights in the parliamentary and state seats.

On Saturday (May 5), Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor confirmed that the party had expelled Tun Daim Zainuddin and Rafidah for “colluding” with the Opposition.

Rais, who has allegedly been critical of the Government, will also be facing disciplinary action.
