KLUANG: Johor’s 81 Barisan Nasional candidates have been reminded to campaign hard until the last moment.
Johor Barisan secretary Datuk Md Jais Sarday said it was crucial to reach out to as many voters as possible, even in areas perceived as the coalition’s strongholds.
He said the candidates needed to constantly debunk Opposition “lies and spins”.
“All our candidates are in high spirits and we have mobilised our machinery, totalling about 100,000 statewide,” Md Jais said in an interview.
He was optimistic that Barisan would be able to do better in GE14.
Md Jais said several businessmen, who previously supported the Opposition in GE13, were now helping to organise dinner events for Barisan candidates.
“But we must be alert about the Opposition’s strategy to win sympathy,” said Md Jais, who is contesting the Mahkota state seat.
Johor Parti Amanah Negara deputy chief Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the party was taking its campaign to the Malay heartland.
“We have campaigned as much as we can in the urban areas. (Now) we are going in smaller groups to campaign in villages and Malay-majority areas,” he said.
