KOTA KINABALU: Kinabatangan MP Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin (pic) says he will focus on four main cores of the Barisan Nasional manifesto to bring development to the constituency.
They comprise education, infrastructure, economy and youth development.
“I will see that Kinabatangan gets vast development,” said the Barisan candidate, who will be defending his seat in GE14, at a groundbreaking event in Tongod on Monday.
He said special grants between RM800 and RM1,500 will be given for those wanting to further their higher education, as well as cash and education opportunities for excellent students.
He also promises to build a secondary school and offer free tuition as well as Quran lessons for the needy.
“This is to ensure that our children will not be left out in terms of education,” Bung said.
Apart from that, he said the Internet penetration rate will be increased to 85%, and water and electricity supply and the upgrade of village roads will be made within five years.
He said according to the Barisan manifesto, some 500 to 1,000 units of low-cost houses priced below RM150,000 will be built in phases, while special allocations will be provided for dilapidated houses and religious buildings.
Bung, the MP for Kinabatangan since 1999, also vowed to set up a shop and public market where villagers' produce of various kinds including crafts, foodstuff, livestock and fish can be displayed and sold.
“There will also be courses for the people to learn skills such as hairdressing, plumbing, electrical and farming,” he added.
He also wants to set up a district tourism information centre, introduce e-sports, improve sports events, and build a sports complex in the interior Tongod area.
He said efforts would be taken to ensure youth in Kinabatangan have enough opportunities so that they do not have to migrate elsewhere to earn a living.
