TANJUNG MALIM: Felda settlers are well taken care of under Barisan Nasional rule but the Government is not resting on its laurels, said Barisan’s Tanjung Malim candidate Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon.
He said more projects are in the works should the coalition win in the constituency, which has 10 Felda settlements.
He listed some of the projects in Tanjung Malim spearheaded by the Barisan government, including Proton City, Youth City and the hospital in Slim River.
“There is still room for us to do more,” he said, adding that they would focus on health.
“There will be an upgrade in basic amenities, health clinics and things like equipping your halls with fans,” Dr Mah told the settlers at the Dewan Semai Bakti in Felda Sungai Behrang yesterday.
During his speech, he also urged the settlers to vote in Barisan’s line-up – Datuk Rusnah Kassim and Datuk Khusairi Abd Talib, who are running for the Behrang and Slim state seats.
Both these areas – as well as the Sungkai state seat which is being contested by Barisan’s Datuk V. Elango – are under Tanjung Malim.
“We have previously worked together in the state assembly,” said Dr Mah.
“With a common understanding that we have achieved so far, this is a line-up that will give the best service to the people,” he said.
Dr Mah said he had received very good response from the Felda settlers during his campaign so far.
Also present at the event were Rusnah and Khusairi.
Later, Dr Mah and the other candidates presented cess cheques of between RM4,000 and RM6,000 to the settlers as an incentive to switch from rubber to palm oil.
Felda Sungai Behrang manager Totor Sanwikarto, 56, said the incentive was good as it made it easier for settlers to do the replanting.
