KEPALA BATAS: If there is a funeral in Telok Ayer Tawar, it is likely you will spot Mustafa Kamal Ahmad there.
The Pakatan Harapan candidate for the Telok Ayer Tawar state seat from PKR said this was not part of his campaign strategy as he had been attending funerals in the area for the past two and a half years.
“Regardless of race, I will attend and pay my respects as we are from one community.
“Things like these are important for someone has lost a loved one,” he said yesterday.
Mustafa, 60, who was born and brought up in Tasek Gelugor, said his main aim was to help the people in his hometown.
“I have been here all my life, I want to make a difference.
“My main goal is to enhance the social and economic standards here,” he said.
The founder of Tatap (Telok Ayer Tawar Prihatin), a society that looks into helping locals in any way possible, Mustafa said he hoped to make it a foundation that can give out funds to those in need.
“It does not matter if it is for education or medical expenses.
“I would also like to create business opportunities for single mothers, youths and the aged at the night market along Teluk Molek beach among other things here,” he said.
The retired teacher, who is the Telok Ayer Tawar PKR coordinator, can also be spotted campaigning in his Pakatan Harapan-themed MINI Clubman vehicle which is in pristine condition.
“I am an old school man and love classic cars, I have had this car for 43 years.
“Everyone knows me here, the response from the public has been great. I am active and go about meeting the people here, visiting houses and speaking to them.
“I do this all the time, I am always interacting with people as I enjoy speaking to them and learning about current issues,” he said.
