POLITICAL scientists contend that Barisan Nasional has managed to consistently retain power because it functions effectively as a “responsive state”, that is, a ruling party that is capable of instituting appropriate policies and actions when under threat of losing power.
There is much evidence in Malaysian history that Barisan functions well as a responsive state when confronted with demands for change by the electorate.
