TAIPING: PAS' line-up for GE14 in Perak was announced except for two parliamentary seats due to "some technical issues".
Perak PAS commissioner Razman Zakaria, who made the announcement, said that the candidates for Beruas and Taiping will be made known at a later date soon.
''We are contesting 21 parliament and 43 state seats in Perak for the election, including the two unconfirmed seats.
''Beruas will be a PAS seat. As for Taiping, a suitable candidate from Pan-Malaysian Islamic Front (Berjasa), our ally in the Gagasan coalition will be fielded,'' he told a press conference after announcing the candidates at the party's markas in Air Kuning here Thursday (April 19) night.
Razman said that over 70% of the candidates are new faces with five women fielded in two parliamentary and three state seats in GE14.
''Most of the candidates are youths, with the youngest aged 29 and oldest at 64. Many of them are professionals such as doctors, engineers, lawyers and activists.
''Three candidates from Perak PAS Supporters Congress (DHPP) will also be contesting one federal and two state seats.
''They are state DHPP Youth chief M. Yougan for Kampar federal seat and lawyer S. Kumaresan for Pasir Bedamar while state DHPP secretary J. Applasamy will run for Sungkai state seat,'' he added.
The other parliamentary seats are Gerik, Lenggong, Larut, Parit Buntar, Bagan Serai, Bukit Gantang, Padang Rengas, Sungai Siput, Tambun, Kuala Kangsar, Parit, Gopeng, Tapah, Pasir Salak, Lumut, Bagan Datuk, Teluk Intan and Tanjong Malim.
The state seats are Pengkalan Hulu, Temengor, Kenering, Kota Tampan, Selama, Kubu Gajah, Batu Kurau, Titi Serong, Kuala Kurau, Alor Pongsu, Gunong Semanggol, Selinsing, Kuala Sepetang, Changkat Jering, Trong, Kamunting, Chenderoh, Lubok Merbau, Lintang, Manjoi, Hulu Kinta, Tebing Tinggi and Bukit Chandan.
The Islamist party is also contesting the state seats of Manong, Pengkalan Baharu, Belanja, Bota, Tualang Sekah, Sungai Rapat, Teja, Chenderiang, Ayer Kuning, Sungai Manik, Kampong Gajah, Pasir Panjang, Pangkor, Rungkup, Hutan Melintang, Changkat Jong, Slim and Behrang.
Razman added that most of the state PAS office bearers are contesting in Perak, where a "green tsunami" is expected.
