PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested a fourth suspect involved in a syndicate producing fake academic scrolls.
The 34-year-old was picked up from his house in Kuala Lumpur at midnight on Wednesday.
Initial investigations revealed that the man, who is a business owner, supplies the fake certificates.
He has since been remanded for six days from the time of his arrest.
On Sunday (April 15), it was reported that three syndicate members aged 30 to 34 were arrested in Jalan Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur, for selling fake diplomas, degrees and Master's degrees under the names of private institutions in the country.
They charged between RM2,000 and RM16,000 depending on the type of qualification and institution.
Meanwhile, MACC deputy chief commissioner (operation) Datuk Seri Azam Baki said the MACC is taking the matter seriously as many companies had employed individuals who bought the fake qualifications.
“We have also contacted several institutions whose names were used and they have confirmed that the certificates we confiscated were fake and not issued by them,” he said.
