Student in viral video of bullying lodges police report

SHAH ALAM: One of the students featured in a viral video of a birthday boy being beaten up with a broom at a secondary school here has lodged a police report over the incident.

Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Baharudin Mat Taib (pic) said the school identified the students who were involved in the incident, which had taken place in February.

He said the student lodged the report at the Seksyen 9 police station on Sunday.

The case is being probed under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting with weapons, he added.

“Action can only be taken after a full investigation is carried out,” he said in a statement yesterday.

In the video that has gone viral, eight male students of a secondary school, including one in a prefect’s uniform, are seen bullying and assaulting another student with a broom, purportedly to “celebrate” his birthday.

Deputy Education Minister Datuk P. Kamalanathan told reporters on Sunday that the ministry was investigating the case.

He said this after attending the anti-bullying #StandTogether Carnival here, organised by Star Media Group and SP Setia.
