PETALING JAYA: Wanita Umno chief Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil (pic) says that she will not accept an offer to contest in the Bandar Tun Razak parliament seat.
There had been speculation that Shahrizat would be fielded as Barisan Nasional's candidate for the seat.
"Many have asked me whether I will accept an offer to contest in the Bandar Tun Razak Parliament seat.
"My reply is no, although it is a constituency where Barisan can win and where it can defeat PKR," Shahrizat said in a posting on her Facebook page.
Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, then running under PKR, had wrested the seat from MCA's Datuk Tan Chai Ho in 2008, and defended it against Tan's son Kok Eng in the 2013 elections.
Bandar Tun Razak Umno chief Datuk Rizalman Mokhtar had earlier pushed for the seat to be allocated to Umno, citing its large Malay community.
Last week, MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said that the Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary constituency is still an MCA seat.
