PEKAN: The country's improved economic situation allowed the Government to increase the 1Malaysia People's Aid (BR1M), says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
He said the World Bank had revised Malaysia's growth estimate four times in just a year, proving the Government's efficacy in managing the economy.
"There is no other country that has seen four revisions within the span of one year. The economic growth is very encouraging and I will not hesitate to distribute it back to the people.
"That is why I announced a 100% increase in BR1M payout from RM400 to RM800 for those receiving in June and August," Najib said at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Bandar Pekan-Kampung Sungai Miang federal road upgrading project here Sunday.
He said the two-lane road would be upgraded to four lanes at the cost of RM338mil.
"This is to ease access to Bandar Pekan. Even though the road does not reach Nenasi or Endau, this project can be seen as the starting point to the south and can be further expanded in phases according to the Government's means.
"So if you want to see more development here, make sure you make the right decision," he said.
