Shahrizat: Wanita BN's GE14 campaign has a feel-good factor

KUCHING: The GE14 campaign undertaken by the Wanita Barisan Nasional GE14 election machinery will focus on increasing the key happiness index of the people, says Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil.

"For women, especially mothers, happiness of the family institution is always the top priority. Happy voters will be key for us to attract more voters, especially fence-sitters and Opposition supporters," said the Wanita Barisan chief.

"We will push for the key happiness index through our 'Jalinan Rakyat' programme as part of our campaign," she told reporters after the launch of Sarawak Wanita Barisan election machinery at the Kota Samarahan civic centre near here on Thursday.

Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and state Wanita Barisan chief Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah were among those present.

It was a sea of blue waves at the venue, as thousands of Wanita Barisan members attended the launch.

Shahrizat expressed gratitude over Sarawak's strong support, saying that the strong relations between Sarawak and Putrajaya should be an example to other states.

She said she was happy with the preparation done by Sarawak Wanita Barisan's GE14 election machinery and praised their discipline, commitment and loyalty.

Shahrizat also lauded Sarawak Barisan's track record of championing women, as proven by the number of elected representatives in the state assembly and parliament.

She also expressed hope that the number would increase in line with Barisan's target to have 30% women representation in government.

"We are happy that Abang Johari believes in women leadership and that the state government has become a strong supporter," she said.

Fatimah, in her speech said Sarawak Wanita Barisan has pledged to work together to support Barisan candidates no matter which component party they were from.

"We will work together and help Barisan retain its 25 seats in Sarawak, as well as wresting another four seats from the opposition.

We target to win 29 out of 31 parliamentary seats this time around," Fatimah continued.
