M’sian, 70, hopes to conquer Mt Everest
KUALA LUMPUR: James Lee Chong Meng, the oldest Malaysian climber who is on his third attempt to conquer Mount Everest, is now in Lukla, north-eastern Nepal.
According to a spokesman, Lee, 70, left for Kathmandu on Saturday. He was accompanied by a group of Vistage CEOs in trekking to Everest Base Camp.
During his first attempt to scale Mount Everest in May 2016, Lee had to abort the climb in the final stage at Camp 3 at a height of 7,200m due to bad weather.
In his second attempt, he failed to proceed after experiencing chest pains and breathing difficulties at Camp 2 at a height of 5,545m.
The mission, dubbed Mount Everest Summit Challenge, is sponsored by Scientex Bhd.
Lee wants to inspire people of all ages to be active and to draw attention on the need to preserve the environment. — Bernama
