KUALA LUMPUR: Two major highways in the city centre will be closed this weekend (April 7 and 8) for the Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2018.
The Ampang-KL Elevated Highway (Akheh) and the Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway (Duke) will be closed between 4am and 11.30am.
There will also be closures and diversions affecting 24 roads in the city including Jalan Raja along Dataran Merdeka, Jalan Bukit Bintang, Jalan Ampang, Jalan Parlimen, Jalan Kuching and parts of the MRR2.
City police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim said the road closures will start from 4am until about 11.30am.
"This is to accommodate the marathon as well as the road clean-up after the run," he said.
Road users are advised to take public transport such as the LRT and MRT to get into the city centre during the marathon.
He said trains will also be in service as early as 2am to accommodate runners and the public.
Comm Mazlan added that Waze users will be redirected through these routes.
He said about 400 policemen and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) officers will be deployed to help control traffic.
He advised road users to heed instructions of traffic officials.
About 38,000 runners will be participating in the 42km run.
