KUALA LUMPUR: The six-month suspension imposed on DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang still stands, says Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia (pic).
In clearing the confusion over the matter, the Dewan Rakyat Speaker said Lim had defiantly attended Thursday’s (March 29) sitting despite being slapped with the suspension.
He said the police were not called in to escort Lim out of the House simply because it would reflect badly on the Parliament.
“If I had used the police, it would look bad, wouldn't it? It’s okay if he wants to ignore my decision. I’ll just act like I didn’t see him,” he told reporters when met in Parliament Thursday.
Pandikar Amin said Lim would not be allowed to participate in debates on Bills or motion until the suspension is lifted.
He also said that if Lim was an ethical lawmaker, he would have been ashamed by defying the suspension.
Earlier, a commotion broke out after the Gelang Patah MP was seen sitting inside the August house despite the suspension.
On Wednesday (March 28), Lim was suspended for six months for refusing to obey instructions and interrupted the House proceedings.
However, even after the suspension order, Lim continued to be in the House, refusing to leave his seat.
At a press conference in Parliament lobby, Lim said he was present in the House because he wanted to know whether he was suspended for a day or six months.
“They are ignoring me. It seems like I have turned myself into a parliamentary ghost,” he said.
Seremban MP Anthony Loke said the six-month suspension on Lim was invalid, claiming that the motion was never passed in Parliament.
“As far as we are concerned, Lim can still be an MP because he was never suspended in the first place.
“We are waiting for the Hansard as it will show the entire sequence of events,” he said.
