KUALA TERENGGANU: Terengganu police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Aidi Ismail says the number of drug-related arrests dropped by 30% in 2017 compared to the year before.

"We arrested 10,387 people for drug-related offences last year (2017) compared to 14,849 the previous year (2016)," he said.

However, he noted that 58 drug pushers were arrested in 2017, more that the 49 nabbed in 2016.

Dep Comm Aidi was speaking after destroying old evidence seized in drug raids between 2006 and 2016.

Among case items destroyed were drugs such as ganja, heroin, syabu, ketamine, eramin 5 pills and methamphetamine, as well as 167kg of ketum leaves worth a combined total of RM88,948.
