GEORGE TOWN: The police will be recording a statement from Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng over the reports lodged against him for dancing along to a song allegedly mocking the Goods and Services Tax (GST) at an event attended by children.

Penang police chief Comm Datuk A. Thaiveegan said Lim's statement will be recorded in the “near future”.

Police have received at least three reports so far, with more expected, he said on Wednesday.

The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) Act for using the Internet to broadcast content that is “obscene, indecent, false, menacing or offensive in character with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass another person”.

Video clips of an anti-GST song, a parody of the children's alphabet song, was played during an event attended by children.

Lim is seen dancing on stage and urging everyone present at the event to sing along.

He has since been criticised for getting children involved in politics.
