Turtle found trapped in net

DUNGUN: A female green turtle was found stranded at Merchang Beach near Marang by a fisherman looking for mussels.

Rantau Abang Fisheries Research Institute marine mammals branch chief Mohd Tamimi Ali Ahmad said the turtle was trapped in an old net and believed to have been stranded on the beach after being swept away by a two-metre-high wave.

“The turtle was severely injured, weak and hungry and it is now undergoing treatment at the centre,” said Mohd Tamimi, adding that the turtle was expected to recover within the next three months. – Bernama

Man nabbed over online scam

PETALING JAYA: A 20-year-old man has been detained for allegedly posing as a car sales agent via a popular online shopping site.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Mazlan Mansor said the suspect was arrested in Selayang on Wednesday.

“We believe the suspect is behind at least 10 cheating cases in Selangor, Penang, Kelantan and Perak,” he said.

Total losses from the victims were estimated at over RM36,000.

MIRI: An oil tanker collided head-on with a passenger van, leaving the van driver seriously injured.

The 5.15am incident yesterday at KM26 of the Sri Aman-Serian highway saw the tanker hitting the van from the opposite direction. Firemen had to use metal-cutting tools to free the trapped driver from the mangled van.

He was rushed to the Sri Aman Hospital while the tanker driver was not hurt.
