AMPANG: The four-year-old girl who was allegedly abused by a family friend has died.
Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Hamzah Alias said that the victim passed away at the Ampang Hospital ICU ward early Wednesday (March 14).
"The case has now been reclassified as murder," he said when contacted.
The police on Tuesday (March 13) arrested a 32-year-old man to assist with investigations. He has been remanded for four days from Wednesday.
"Efforts to locate other suspects related to the case are still ongoing," he said.
On March 11, a medical officer from the Ampang Hospital notified the police that a Indonesian girl, aged four, had been admitted, and that she had bruises all over her body.
The girl was unconscious when she was sent to the hospital.
It is believed that the mother of the child had asked a friend to act as a temporary guardian.
