Gagasan Sejahtera: Seat allocations 70% settled

KUALA LUMPUR: The PAS-led Gagasan Sejahtera has finalised 70% of its seat allocations for the federal and state levels in the coming election, said its secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan.

Takiyuddin said that negotiations have gone smoothly among its component parties under the Gagasan pact, which consisted of PAS, Parti Ikatan Bangsa Malaysia (Ikatan) and Barisan Jemaah Islamiah Se-Malaysia (Berjasa).

“We can say that 70% of seat allocations have been settled. The rest depends on when Parliament tables the redelineation proposal,” he said during a press conference at the PAS headquarters here Monday.

Takiyuddin also expressed confidence that negotiations among its component parties will be finalised by the end of the month.

“We are confident that negotiations can be settled within one or two more meetings. The next meeting will take place sometime this month. We are confident that it will be settled in that meeting.

“There isn’t much problems (during negotiations). There’s a lot of compromise and the negotiations are done in the spirit of helping out our partners in Gagasan.”

The Kota Baru MP added that Gagasan will contest 130 parliamentary seats in the 14th General Election.

PAS deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said that its doors are open for non-Muslim candidates to contest under its banner, as long as the candidate is willing to adopt Gagasan’s principles.

“Our principles in Gagasan includes not betraying the people’s trust. We want clean and harmonious politics for the future of our next generation. In short, we reject toxic politics,” he added.
