PETALING JAYA: Lim Guan Eng's refusal to participate in live debates shows that he is not brave enough to answer questions about the Penang undersea tunnel project, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
In a live video screened over social media on Wednesday, the MCA deputy president said that the Penang Chief Minister's answers regarding the RM6.34bil tunnel project would not face up to the scrutiny of a live debate.
"This is why he refuses to debate and prefers to write very long statements," he said.
Dr Wee, who is also Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, said Malaysians have started to question the scale of alleged corruption linked to the project, and labelled the scandal "the worst in Penang's history".
Dr Wee said that DAP should "throw out" their claims of transparency due to this issue.
"If Guan Eng dares not answer me as a Federal Minister and MCA deputy president, what chance does the man on the street have of getting an honest explanation from him?" he asked.
Dr Wee added that Penang Deputy Chief Minister II Dr. P. Ramasamy's statement that Guan Eng did not have to debate him as DAP had bigger public support than MCA during GE13 was not a good reason to opt out of the debate.
"Having public support does not mean that it is a licence for DAP leaders to commit wrongdoing, be corrupt, or act arrogantly," he said.
Dr Wee said that he would continue to expose any of DAP's alleged "corrupt practises" over the tunnel project.
