KUALA LUMPUR: Baling MP Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim will be suing Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng for defamation over allegations that Azeez was linked to the controversial Penang undersea tunnel and three main roads project.
Azeez said his lawyer has sent two letters of demand to Lim in Penang on Monday.
The first letter, he said, was sent to Lim’s office at 3.40pm while the second was delivered to his residence in Pinhorn Road at 4.30pm.
“He has four days to retract and publicly apologise for his false statements against me, Tabung Haji, Umno and the people of Baling. Otherwise, I will proceed with legal action,” Azeez told a press conference at Parliament yesterday.
Lim had called on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to arrest Azeez over claims that he received RM3mil for consultancy work in regulatory compliance and risk management for the mega project.
Azeez, in his summons, also demanded that Lim provide a formal declaration to never repeat the allegations and to reveal the source of his information, if any.
In response, Lim said it is up to Azeez to sue him.
“If he wants to sue, it is within his rights.
“We will contest the suit,” Lim told reporters in Parliament.
Asked if he will apologise publicly to Azeez, Lim replied: “Azeez? Tolonglah (Please-lah).”
