Four GOF speedboats destroyed in fire

The fire that destroyed four boats of the General Operations Force (GOF) and slightly damaged a fifth at the Lahad Datuk Marine Police base.

KOTA KINABALU: Four General Operations Force speedboats were destroyed and another slightly damaged at the Lahad Datu marine police base after a fire started in one of the vessels.

A spokesman for the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department said a distress call was received at 11.50am yesterday and 12 firemen managed to put out the fire with foam 10 minutes after reaching the scene.

The boats were between 10m and 12m in length and two metres in width.

No one was hurt in the incident and the Fire Department is investigating the cause of the fire.
