PETALING JAYA: Members of the public, especially those residing in Selangor should not to be alarmed by an increase in police presence on Saturday and Sunday as the police personnel are involved in election drills.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Mazlan Mansor said the exercises, which are being conducted in preparation for the coming general election, are taking place statewide to gauge the readiness of the police.

"It is also aimed at testing the effectiveness of our plans and actions in dealing with any security situation that might jeopardise public order.

"A few scenarios have been planned and will be carried out to ensure that our preparedness is at maximum level," he said when contacted.

One of the crucial parts of the exercises is to test the police's action plan based on set procedures.

"This is important so that we can identify and improve on any shortcomings in deploying all elements of the police force and existing communication network," he added.
