Zahid: RoS was professional in dealing with Pakatan

PUTRAJAYA: The Registrar of Societies (RoS) has been professional in its handling of Pakatan Harapan’s application to be formally recognised as a coalition, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Dr Ahmad Zahid, who is also Home Minister, said it was only fair for RoS to look into complaints lodged by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia members before deciding.

“They (RoS) are not only reviewing Pakatan’s application – they also have to consider the complaints lodged by Pribumi members. And Pribumi is a main component of Pakatan.

“I think RoS is being fair and professional.

“I do not interfere as this is an operational matter. But it is doing its best,” he said here after receiving a courtesy call from Saudi Arabia Ambassador to Malaysia Mahmoud Hussien Saeed Qattan.

Dr Ahmad Zahid was commenting on Pakatan’s decision to take legal action against the RoS, alleging delay in reviewing the coalition’s registration.

Pribumi members have lodged complaints with the RoS, claiming that the party had breached its constitution when it conducted its annual general assembly recently.

The meeting with the ambassador was held to discuss Saudi Interior Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud’s visit to Malaysia on March 13.

“Malaysia and Saudi Arabia have signed an agreement on security. During this visit, we will be sharing our experience and expertise in our terrorist deradicalisation programme,” said Dr Ahmad Zahid.

The visit to Malaysia is Prince Abdulaziz’s first since being appointed as Interior Minister on June 21.

In Cyberjaya, Bernama reported Dr Ahmad Zahid as saying that the basic aspects of the National Education Policy does not need to be changed by any minister helming the portfolio.

Racial diversity, he said, was not an excuse for this sector to be plunged into confusion merely to satisfy the demands of the different communities.

“We do not want to see changes in the policy just to please the demands of certain quarters, placing a burden on students,” he said at the closing ceremony of National Islamic Consultative Council (MPI) assembly.
