General Operations Force loses four speedboats in fire

KOTA KINABALU: Four General Operations Force (GOF) speedboats were destroyed when a fire broke out on one of the boats docked at the Lahad Datu marine police base.  

A spokesman for the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department said 12 firemen were deployed to the scene after receiving a distress call at 11.50am Friday (March 2).  

He said firemen used foam to put out the blaze within 10 minutes.  

The spokesman said that the boats destroyed were 600HP Banggi 27250HP Vanguard 11, 250HP Vanguard 12 and 240HP Cenderawasih while 600HP Banggi 28 was slightly damaged by the fire.  

He said no one was hurt in the incident and the cause of the blaze is being investigated.
