KUALA LUMPUR: The bloated body of a 49-year-old local man was found in a locked van, with evidence pointing to an apparent suicide.

Sentul OCPD Asst Comm R. Munusamy said police were notified of the incident on Sunday afternoon (Feb 25).

The van was parked at a petrol station, near the Batu Caves roundabout.

"A medical officer from the Selayang Hospital was sent to the scene and confirmed the death. The body was already bloated and the police required the help of the  Fire and Rescue Department to remove it from the vehicle," said ACP Munusamy.

He added on Monday (Feb 26) that an investigation of the van led to the discovery of a packet of charcoal briquettes and cough medicine.

ACP Munusamy said that witnesses told the police that the van had been parked there for about two days.

The exact cause of death has yet to be determined as a post-mortem report is still pending.
