GEORGE TOWN: The majority of MCA candidates in Penang for the upcoming general election will be new faces, says MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.
“The list of candidates for Penang has been submitted to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
“A lot of young candidates were picked because we need young blood for the country,” he said, adding that further announcements would be made soon.
Liow said MCA would contest in four Parliament seats and 10 state seats in Penang.
“We are in high spirits to wrest back the seats which the coalition had lost.
“It has been 10 years and now is the time for Barisan Nasional to work together to win back Penang,” he said at the Penang MCA Chinese New Year Open House at the Church Street Pier.
Previously, Gerakan secretary-general Datuk Liang Teck Meng had said the party would contest 13 state seats and four Parliament seats in Penang.
He had said the state was its “frontline” and Gerakan wanted to work with MCA, the biggest Chinese-based political party in Malaysia.
