IPOH: A drive up north turned into a long ordeal for many travellers after an accident in the Menora Tunnel near Jelapang left traffic backed up for 5km.
In the late morning incident yesterday, two cars collided in the tunnel, turning turtle and blocking traffic on both northbound lanes at the 261.4km mark.
This caused a jam that lasted almost two hours.
A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said an emergency call was received at 11.31am.
“However, no victims were spotted at the scene,” the spokesman said, adding that firemen searched the area to ensure that no other victims were involved.
Highway authorities could not locate any victims at the scene as well.
It is learnt that the victims were rescued by members of the public and sent for treatment.
At 1.16pm, Plus Malaysia said in a tweet that the accident site had been cleared and traffic had returned to normal on all lanes.
