PETALING JAYA: As musicians, Cassidy La Creme and Aziz Harun certainly believe in the power of music.
With that in mind, they are trying to use their “power” to get their fans to help with charitable causes.
In their immediate plans is the #DaretoCare campaign to help the needy.
“I think it is a wonderful initiative. We are so busy with our daily routines, it is easy to forget to give something in return.
“This campaign gives us an opportunity to help,’’ said Cassidy, an Australian singer who is now based in Malaysia.
Cassidy said she loved the extra touch of messages written on the paper bags used.
“Sometimes for the less fortunate, it’s not just about money or gifts. Words can make all the difference,” she added.
Cassidy has supported many causes since she was young, including blood donation drives for the Red Cross, hunger and famine programmes, senior citizen support initiatives, and refugee aid.
“We should help as much as we can, we don’t have to stop at just one,” she added.
Aziz highlighted the role of the media in helping to create awareness.
“We get news about the less fortunate in the newspapers. Reading about this campaign will help get more to step forward to help,” he added.
#DaretoCare is a joint charity initiative championed by Star Media Group and SkyWorld Development Group to address the needs of welfare homes in Malaysia.
The campaign, which ends today, saw people helping the less fortunate by filling in gifts or essential items in the paper bags provided.
Donations were collected at SkyWorld’s property galleries in Kuala Lumpur (Sentul, Setiawangsa, Bukit Jalil and Setapak) and at Menara Star. The items will be distributed accordingly to selected welfare homes.
